According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.4 km˛ (0.9 mi˛), all land.

There were 182 households out of which 39.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.9% were married couples living together, 15.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.5% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.13.
In the city the population was spread out with 32.3% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 19.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $27,292, and the median income for a family was $33,125. Males had a median income of $22,083 versus $21,250 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,198. About 8.8% of families and 14.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.0% of those under age 18 and 6.7% of those age 65 or over.
OGILVIE, a city in Kanabec Township, sections 26 and 35, was incorporated as a village on January 21, 1902. The first land was purchased in 1854 by the Hersey Lumber Company; Noah Adams built a sawmill and store in the late 1880s; the post office was first Fisk and then Groundhouse, before becoming Ogilvie in 1899. Oric Ogilvie Whited purchased the townsite, filing a plat on July 18, 1889, changing the name to Ogilvie, and later that year the Great Northern Railway changed the depot name from Groundhouse to Ogilvie.
