History:

MANCHESTER, first settled in June 1856, organized in January 1858, was then named Buckeye, but in May it was renamed Liberty. In October of that year it received the present name, suggested by Mathias Anderson, who came here in 1857 from a township of this name in Illinois. The city in section 15 was founded in 1877-78 and platted in 1882 by Ole Peterson and again in 1898 by H. W. Fish; it was incorporated on October 6, 1947. The village had a station of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad.
