Hampton is a city in Dakota County, Minnesota. U.S. Highway 52; and State Highways 50 and 56 are three of the main routes in the community. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.36 square miles (3.52 km2), of which 1.35 square miles (3.50 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water. The elevation is 991 ft (302 m) above sea level.

HAMPTON Township, established April 6, 1858, was named for "a place of that name in Connecticut. This appellation was suggested by Nathaniel Martin in honor of his birthplace." The city of Hampton, sections 8 and 9, was incorporated as a village on July 23, 1896; its post office was established in 1856; it had a station of the Chicago Great Western Railroad.
