Geography:

Bricelyn is a city in Faribault County, Minnesota, which is located 200 miles south of the Twin Cities. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.29 square miles (0.75 km²), all of it land. The elevation is 1,181 ft (360 m) above sea level.

Demographics:

As of the census of 2010, there were 365 people, 168 households, and 97 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,258.6 inhabitants per square mile (485.9 /km2). There were 197 housing units at an average density of 679.3 per square mile (262.3 /km2). The racial makeup of the city was 92.6% White, 2.5% African American, 1.4% Native American, 0.8% Asian, 0.5% from other races, and 2.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 9.6% of the population.

There were 168 households of which 21.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.6% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.2% had a male householder with no wife present, and 42.3% were non-families. 38.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.17 and the average family size was 2.89.

The median age in the city was 47.9 years. 22.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.5% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 18.6% were from 25 to 44; 27.4% were from 45 to 64; and 24.9% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 52.1% male and 47.9% female.

History:

BRICELYN, a city in Seely Township, sections 10 and 15, was named for John Brice, who owned and platted it. It was incorporated on July 15, 1903, and separated from the township on March 30, 1912; the post office began in 1899. The village had a station of the Chicago and North Western Railway in section 10.
