Mathiowetz' wife thankful for search 

The wife of a missing 73-year-old Sleepy Eye man expressed gratitude to everyone who has been looking for her husband since he was reported missing June 3. Sleepy Eye Police received a report of a missing person at 12:13 p.m. June 3. Vincent H. Mathiowetz was last seen by family leaving home in his pickup at about 8:30 a.m. At 1:37 p.m., a vehicle belonging to Mathiowetz was found three and a half miles south of Sleepy Eye at a public water access boat landing near the Cottonwood River. Vincent was last seen wearing blue jeans, a red t-shirt, a blue and white flannel shirt and brown work boots.

Police looking for missing SE man 

On Sunday, June 3, at approximately 12:13 p.m., the Sleepy Eye Police Department received a report that Vincent Hugo Mathiowetz, 73, 224 Ellsworth St. SE, Sleepy Eye, was missing. At approximately 1:37 p.m. a vehicle belonging to Mathiowetz was located approximately 3 miles south of Sleepy Eye at a boat landing on Highway 4 near the Cottonwood River.

Vehicle theft, high-speed chase leads to teen's arrest 

A 17-year-old male suspect was arrested following a high-speed chase that led law enforcement from Fairfax to Franklin in the early-morning hours of May 5. According to a Renville County Sheriff's Office news release, a deputy was searching for a suspect in a fight reported in the 400 block of South Park Street at 12:05 a.m. when a vehicle was noticed that did not have its lights on and did not stop for stop signs. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled and a pursuit was initiated west of Fairfax on State Highway 19. The suspect vehicle reached speeds of more than 100 miles per hour and other dangerous driving behavior during the pursuit involving two sheriff's deputies and Fairfax Police.

Owners of Bird Island home destroyed by fire now face charges 

Jeffery George Ackerson, Jr., and Sheena Marie Ackerson are facing charges related to the fire that destroyed their home in Bird Island on Jan. 15. Jeffrey George Ackerson Jr., 34, is facing felony charges of arson, insurance fraud and cruelty to animals, while his wife, Sheena Marie Ackerson, 36, has been charged with one felony count of aiding and abetting insurance fraud.

Are they arsonists? 

The owners of a south-central Minnesota home destroyed by fire in January have now been charged in connection with that fire. Jeffrey George Ackerson Jr., 34, of Bird Island is facing felony charges of arson, insurance fraud and cruelty to animals, while his wife, Sheena Marie Ackerson, 36, has been charged with one felony count of aiding and abetting insurance fraud.
