Budget Committee to consider several requests at meeting 

The Pope County Quorum Court Budget Committee will consider several requests for funds and transfers when it convenes at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the quorum court chambers of the Pope County Courthouse. Fund requests include $6,359 from the General Fund for treasurer, $2,087 for treasurer unemployment compensation, $1,000 from the General Fund for the Sheriff's Department, $5,000 from a grant fund for library general supplies, and $89,300 from the Recorder's Cost Fund for the Circuit Clerk's office.

Federal grants prop up small Minnesota towns 

Clarkfield scored near the top this year in the annual distribution of Small Cities Development Program grants, which are given out by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the state to help rehabilitate housing for low- to moderate-income people, mitigate blight and slums and eradicate health and safety problems. Clarkfield was awarded $1.1a million, one of 35 communities in greater Minnesota to get a share of $19a million distributed by the state Department of Employment and Economic Development .

Citizens For A Better Pope County turns in signatures 

The committee Citizens For A Better Pope County has turned in its signatures to certify a petition that would send casino licenses to a local vote to appear on the November ballot. One of the group's organizers, Tony Moore, appeared at the Pope County Courthouse on Tuesday with a gaggle of supporters to turn in the 5,696 signatures collected over a 17-day period.

Pope Co. Quorum Court to consider casino resolution 

The Pope County Quorum Court will discuss a resolution concerning the proposed casino gambling amendment when it convenes at 5 p.m. today inside the Pope County Courthouse. Justice of the Peace Joseph Pearson said Tuesday he read the casino proposal and did not like the fact that if Pope County residents vote against the amendment, voters in other counties throughout Arkansas can vote for it.
