The Bike Guy: Paths are murky in search for answers on rails-to-trails land 

When last we left the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy , it was being coy about the precise location of the 222 miles of potential new rail-to-trail bike paths it claimed exist in the state of Minnesota. We now know that the group was being shy on purpose.

Inmate overpowered corrections officer and stole transport vehicle 

According to a press release sent by Polk County Sheriffs Office, a Northwest Regoinal Corrections Officer was transporting inmate Tony Mitchell Krueger, 20, when he overpowered the officer while in Crookston. The stolen vehicle was located near Erskine, MN.

Cattle run loose on Minnesota highway, some still missing 

FOSSTON, Minn.-A Polk County deputy located a "small herd" of 10 to 14 cows running down U.S. Highway 2 in northwest Minnesota east of Fosston Monday. Local law enforcement and the Fosston Fire Department attempted to stop the cattle as they continued to run around the east side of town for more than two hours.

Northwest Minnesota building destroyed after controlled burn 'got out of hand 

The blaze started as a controlled burn Saturday about 7 miles south of East Grand Forks, according to the city's fire department. The fire "got out of hand" and ignited a building, which was a total loss, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
