Walz, Johnson diverge on how to pay for opioid fight 

The two candidates for governor differed Thursday in how best the state should tackle the opioid epidemic, an issue of growing concern for county leaders worried about the increasing burden on local budgets of preventing and treating addiction. At an Association of Minnesota Counties conference in Alexandria, Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Walz said he'd pick up the push on a "penny a pill" proposal that would have pharmaceutical companies pay a fee for the opioids they sell.

Todd County 20-year-old is Minnesota's 2018 Princess Kay of the Milky Way 

A young woman from Todd County has been crowned the Minnesota State Fair 's 65th Princess Kay of the Milky Way. Rebekka Paskewitz, a 20-year-old college student from Browerville, was crowned Wednesday night.

A hometown newspaper writes its own obituary and then writes its second act 

"We wanted to go out with a bang," said publisher Ted Almen, who oversaw the 6,124th and final edition of the Raymond-Prinsburg News on the Fourth of July. The News was the third Minnesota newspaper to go out of business in the first six months of this year.

Willmar Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing Uzi, Pipe Bomb 

A Willmar man faces up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday to illegally possessing an Uzi machine gun, an unregistered silencer and a pipe bomb. Chad Lee Monson reached a plea deal with federal prosecutors nearly six months after investigators found a cache of weapons inside his pole barn in Kandiyohi County last February.
