Gilbert Lake Drowning Update 

Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reports the victim found in Gilbert Lake has been identified as Douglas Alan Larson, age 66, from Brainerd, MN. Larson's vehicle and boat trailer were located at the lake access, and his boat was found beached a short distance from the access and where Larson was found in the water.

2 Merrifield residents arrested on multiple charges 

Sheriff Dahl reports that on Sunday, June 10 at approximately 0327 a.m., the Crow Wing County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from an unidentified female, stating that she needed help because her boyfriend was not acting right and that he had a felony warrant. Adam Albert Pence, age 33 of Merrifield, was subsequently arrested for multiple charges including possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a small amount of marijuana, 5th degree possession of a controlled substance, felon in possession of firearm and child endangerment.

Architectural latex paint disposal now available in CWC 

The HHW facility will be open for this specific waste stream from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month from May through October. "This free service keeps these chemicals out of our environment, protecting our water resources," said Jake Frie, Crow Wing County environmental services supervisor.

Motorcyclist facing life-threatening injuries after crashing into vehicle 

A motorcyclist is facing life-threatening injuries after it crashed into a vehicle on Highway 371 in Crow Wing County. It happened Saturday afternoon on Highway 371 at Oijbwa Road.

Man dies by suicide in Aitkin jail 

A 57-year-old Aitkin man died June 1 in the Aitkin County Jail as the result of suicide. Correction officers reported Monte James Tibbetts was walking around in his cell area at 4:57 a.m. in the Aitkin County Jail, according to the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office.

4-H to host 'Party with a Purpose' 

Crow Wing County 4-H will host a "Party with a Purpose" fundraiser 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 17, to raise money for youth development in the area. The event is sponsored by Sprout, ArtPlace America and the Region Five Development Commission.

Jenkins City Council May Highlights 

The City of Jenkins will be hosting an official grand opening for the new City Playground on Saturday, June 16th. From 12 noon to 4 pm, there will be a picnic meal of hot dogs, chips and beverages , Ladder Golf, Croquet or Bean Bag toss and at 1 pm a ceremonial ribbon cutting and presentation of a golden shovel to the main donator.

Crow Wing County collaborates to build a self-healing community 

Crow Wing County Community Services staff are working in conjunction with Bridges of Hope, a local resource, to research to build a self-healing community. The idea is to engage the public, inspire innovation, support peer helping, and ease the daily stress burden of parents to promote change so that together communities can better protect and nurture the next generation.

'A Resource Worth Saving' Big Trout Lake 

A crew from Brainerd-based Technical Service Area 8 surveyed the site of a stormwater treatment project in September 2017 off Crow Wing County Road 66 bordering Big Trout Lake just outside Manhattan Beach. The project is estimated to keep 40 pounds of phosphorus out of the lake annually.

Man drowned apparently while pursuing his drifting boat on lake near Brainerd 

The suspected drowning of a Brainerd, Minn., man apparently came after he went in the water to pursue his boat as it drifted from him during its launch, authorities said. The body Douglas A. Larson, 66, was recovered Thursday afternoon in the narrows of Gilbert Lake just north of Brainerd, according to the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office.

Construction scheduled to begin on Crow Wing county highways 

The Crow Wing County Highway Department entered into a contract with Anderson Brothers Construction for bituminous surfacing on County Highway 2 from County Highway 45 to Highway 25 and on County Highway 21 from County Highway 2 to Highway 371. Construction work is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 7, with subgrade repair work on County Highway 2 just west of County Highway 9 and milling at the bridges on County Highway 2 and County Highway 21. Mainline paving is scheduled to begin the week of June 11 on County Highway 2. Right turn lane and passing lane construction at Lone Oak Road and Buffalo Creek Road on County Highway 21 will begin the week of June 11 followed by bituminous leveling and mainline paving.
