North-central Minnesota man charged with murdering his mother 

A Cass County man has been charged with second-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his mother multiple times at her home in Bena. In addition to the homicide charge, Thomas Wayne Matthews, 34, is facing three counts of second-degree assault and one count of fifth-degree assault after an incident at a Bena business in late November.

Truck and SUV crash, sending truck toward Corner Store 

An 18-year-old Pillager man was injured when the SUV he was driving collided with a pickup truck Friday, Nov. 30, resulting in the truck coming to a rest against the Corner Store in Cass County, between Pillager and Baxter.

A 34-year-old Longville man who is a suspect in his mother's homicide in Bena faces criminal charges in a separate incident when he allegedly assaulted two people with a knife at a Bena bar.

Cass County Sheriff Investigating Death in Bena 

Deputies were called out around 6:20 a.m. Wednesday morning to a report of an unresponsive woman. When they got there, they determined she was dead.
