Packing in fun with alpacas 

Valerie Davis, 19, left, stands with 4-year-old Darby while Isabell Karvakko, 9, holds onto Tracker, an alpaca that was born last fall on the Karvakko family farm. Alpacas have become the showcase animal for the farm, which has helped spur the grown of the alpaca program through Beltrami County 4-H.

Woman Dies in Beltrami Co. ATV Crash 

A 911 caller reported the crash at 8:20 a.m. The crash was near the intersection of Nature Road NW and Mayflower Road NW in Eckles Township, which is about nine miles northwest of Bemidji. Forty-two-year-old Rosalee R. Miles of Shevlin was riding an ATV that left a roadway and went into a ditch, where it hit a barbed wire fence and overturned in a field.

Storms, floods a cloud over Minnesota's July 4 festivities 

Some parades and fireworks celebrating July Fourth have been canceled in the Twin Cities because of thunderstorms, while residents in southern Minnesota have responded to rising waters. The Star Tribune reports that the weather put a damper on festivities, but no storm-related fatalities were reported across Minnesota.

Clean-up begins after possible tornado rips through Bemidji 

Severe weather that destroyed a garage, damaged houses and uprooted trees is being reviewed to determine whether a tornado touched down in Bemidji. Beltrami County emergency officials asked the public to avoid an area west of Bemidji State University after a storm swept through the city about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 4. County Emergency Management Director Chris Muller said about 12 square blocks were affected.

Excessive Heat Warning In Minnesota Friday 

An excessive heat warning goes into effect for the Twin Cities at 11 a.m. that will last until 10 p.m. WCCO's Matt Brickman said it will be hot and extremely humid, with temperatures in the upper 90s and a heat index between 105 and 110. A number of summer storms also rolled across the northern portion of the state early Friday, with reports of hail and strong winds.
