A 'pause' on Bemidji's wellness project: Organizations say more... 

The two organizations working to bring a new sports and wellness complex to Bemidji are taking a brief "pause" in the project to ensure all stakeholders, including the city, are on the same page. The $27 million facility, estimated at 175,000 square feet, will be located on Sanford Health's Bemidji campus and include three sections: a wellness center with aquatic space, a multi-use sports facility with a bubble roof and a two-sheet ice arena.

One woman dies in crash, Beltrami County 

The slick roads on Monday caused a one-vehicle crash in north-central Minnesota, claiming the life of a woman. Minnesota State Patrol says Claudia Leiby, 51-year-old, from Solway, Minn lost control of her vehicle, went off the road on Highway 2 and rolled.

One dies in Beltrami County crash 

A one-vehicle crash on a snowy and icy highway in north central Minnesota Monday claimed the life of a woman from Solway, Minn., the State Patrol said. Claudia Leiby, 51, was the lone occupant of a 2002 Ford pickup that spun out about 10:40 a.m. on Hwy.

Bemidji man charged with arson 

BEMIDJI, Minn.-A Bemidji man accused of intentionally setting fire to a house was charged with first-degree arson Thursday, Jan. 4. Damian Patrick Joseph Smith, 20, has been held in the Beltrami County Jail since his arrest early Tuesday, Jan. 2. He was taken into custody after Beltrami County deputies found him acting suspicious at the scene of the fire. According to a criminal complaint against Smith, deputies and Bemidji firefighters received a report of the fire at the 700 block of Sunset Way at about 10:22 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1. When they arrived, officials found both of the home's residents, as well as Smith, in the garage.

Red Lake Council votes to allow fishing on lakes after fishermen go missing

Man arrested for attempted murder after fire in home near Bemidji 

According to a news release from the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office, deputies and the Bemidji Fire Department responded to a fire at the 700 block of Sunset Way at about 8:22 p.m., and found flames and heavy smoke coming from the lower level of the home. All of the home's occupants escaped, the release said.

Man arrested after house fire near Bemidji 

A Bemidji man has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, arson and obstructing the legal process after a fire near Bemidji. 20 year-old Damian Smith was arrested at the scene.
