Flash flooding possible in east central Minn. after "incredible" rainstorm 

A weather system moving eastward through Minnesota overnight dumped "incredible" amounts of rain Thursday in several east-central counties, prompting flash flood warnings in a widespread area including Brainerd, Mora, Hinckley, Aitkin and Lake Vermilion. Some areas received more than 6 inches of rain in just a few hours before and after sunrise, the National Weather Service said, adding that the precipitation totals could prove to be historic.

WRAP connects families to services 

For two years, We Rally Around Parents has served Aitkin County families and children by getting support in place prior to becoming involved in the school system. Being able to help families access services to get back on their feet again makes Cassie Conn's job worthwhile, said the family resource specialist with Lakes and Pines.

Rear-end crash with semitrailer injures 3 

Three people were injured at 12:24 p.m. Saturday, June 30, in a rear-end crash involving a Freightliner semitrailer and a GMC Sierra near McGregor in Aitkin County. The Minnesota State Patrol reported a Ford van was traveling east on Highway 210 when it slowed to turn left on 248th Place, which caused the Freightliner truck to quickly apply its brakes.

Jury acquits Minnesota driver charged with killing 85-year-old at end of driveway 

AITKIN, Minn.- A 62-year-old Deerwood man accused of careless driving in connection with the death of a northern Minnesota woman in 2016 has been acquitted by a jury. Margaret Ann Johnson, 85, of Aitkin, was found dead on the shoulder of Highway 47 about 3.5 miles east of Aitkin.

COMMENTARY: Pipelines tax revenue critical to greater Minnesota counties 

When the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission announces its long-awaited decision on the Enbridge Line 3 replacement, it should approve both the certification of need, and the route permit, based on the Enbridge preferred route. Additionally, we believe Gov. Dayton should direct the Minnesota Department of Commerce to rescind its opposition to the Line 3 replacement project because pipelines are critical to greater Minnesota counties.
