Worthington man dies in crash on icy Nobles County road 

A 26-year-old man from Worthington, Minn., was killed Wednesday morning in a two-vehicle crash on an icy road in southwestern Minnesota's Nobles County, according to the State Patrol. Carlos Cordero Alvarez died at 6:48 a.m. when he lost control of the 2007 Toyota RAV 4 he was driving south on Hwy.

Runnings announces plans to build new store in Worthington 

Runnings retail company announced Monday the purchase of 10.6 acres of land in Worthington north of Oxford Street from Yellow Company, LLC. Runnings Chief Operation Officer Dan Herrmann said the property in Worthington will be used to build a new 74,000-square-foot store as part of a revitalization effort of the former Northland Mall at 1727 Oxford Street. The new store is expected to open early next year.

Two hurt in 12-vehicle pileup 

Two people were injured a 12-vehicle pileup last week in northwestern Jackson County. Marlem Ocampo, 36, and Maria Miranda, 22, both of Rushmore, sustained what troopers with the Minnesota State Patrol termed "non-life-threatening" injuries when the 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer in which they were traveling collided with several other vehicles on Highway 60 just east of Heron Lake city limits shortly before 4 p.m. on April 3. Both were treated for injuries at the Worthington hospital and released, troopers said.

Westbrook man dies in crash 

A 27-year-old Westbrook man died in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 59 in Elk Township, Nobles County at 6:19 p.m. April 9. Daniel H. McClellan was driving a 2001 Cadillac Deville southbound on Highway 59 when he drifted onto the right shoulder, over-corrected, crossed into the northbound lane, went into a ditch and hit a utility pole. A vehicle passenger, Bailey K. McClellan, 3, was transported to a Worthington hospital.

St. Cloud Cracks the Top 10 for Snowiest April's on Record 

We officially had 1.1 inches of snow in St. Cloud Sunday. That brings us to 8.8 inches of snow for the month of April.

The Southwestern Mental Health Center hasn't yet reached its fifth anniversary in its Fifth Avenue facility near downtown Worthington, and interior renovations have already been made to create more work space. The need for mental health services in Nobles County has increased 76 percent since 2012, with a 24 percent increase from 2016 to 2017 alone, according to SWMHC Director Scott Johnson.
