Local park crew assigned to Casey Jones Trail maintenance, oversight | Pipestone County Star 

Last year during the annual meeting for the Friends of the Casey Jones Trail, Phil Nasby, area supervisor with the State Parks and Trails Division of the Department of Natural Resources surprised the group toward the end of the meeting with news that long-awaited funding had been found to pave five miles of shovel-ready Casey Jones trail in Pipestone County from County Road 16 east to Woodstock. That $600,000 came from the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources , a 17-member body that makes funding recommendations to the legislature for special environment and natural resource projects, primarily from the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund .

Inmate charged with assaulting an officer 

An inmate at the Pipestone County Jail facing a felony charge of methamphetamine is now facing an additional charge of assaulting a police officer after he struck a jailer. Aren Franc Hatton, 37, of Woodstock, was arrested on June 6 for possession of meth.

2Gritters jitters 

The ridges in highways that wake motorists up or rattle their teeth if they drift off the interstate or come to a stop sign are known as rumble strips' to most. To former Woodstock resident, Ed Gritters and kin, those rumble strips are known as "Gritters' Jitters" due to Gritters' role in creating an inexpensive way decades ago to place those rumble strips in California highways.
