One day after Sen. Al Franken spoke directly to the media for the first time since news broke of sexual harassment allegations against him, the senator will sit down for a one-on-one interview with KSTP. Franken on Sunday told the Star Tribune and Minnesota Public Radio he was embarrassed and ashamed by the allegations, but that he planned to return to Capitol Hill on Monday ahead of two Senate Judiciary Committee hearings this week and to fight the GOP tax bill.

Minnesota briefs: Mankato approves $2.5 million to upgrade civic center 

Mankato's City Council has approved $2.5 million in upgrades to make the city's downtown civic center, which has been plagued by humidity and moisture problems, more usable as a hockey arena. The civic center was built in 1994 and the majority of the existing equipment is original.

Minnesota governor's residence Christmas tree harvested 

The state Department of Natural Resources says the 30-foot-tall white spruce was cut down Friday in the General C.C. Andrews State Forest, near Willow River. DNR staff and the Conservation Corps of Minnesota cut down the governor's residence tree on the Friday before Thanksgiving every year, from one of the 59 state forests.

Arrows and Knights advance to state semifinals | Pipestone County Star 

The Pipestone Area Arrows and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights are headed to the state football semifinals following quarterfinal victories Friday night in New Ulm. The Class AA Arrows defeated the Blue Earth Area Buccaneers 19-12 and will meet Moose Lake-Willow River in the semifinals at 11:30 a.m. Friday at US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
