Austin Public Schools' non-white population tops 50% 

According to the district's Oct. 1 numbers, non-white students now account for 50.9 percent of the district's entire population; Hispanics make up 29 percent, Asians 9.2 percent and blacks 8.3 percent. While crossing the 50 percent threshold is notable, Corey Haugen, the director of research evaluation and assessment, said this was an event they've been expecting.

Johnson, Walz debate in Willmar 

Democrat Tim Walz and Republican Jeff Johnson were in Willmar last night for a Minnesota Governors' candidates' debate. The two sparred at the Minnwest Technology Campus in a debate which was broadcast live on WCCO radio in the Twin Cities.

COMMENTARY: Investing in workforce development 

This spring, I had the honor of giving the commencement address to Ridgewater College's Class of 2018 in Willmar. Ridgewater is a community and technical college where students have the opportunity to partner with local businesses and get hands on experience in the workforce so they can hit the ground running right after they graduate.

Court documents filed against Sunrise Court owners 

Court documents have been filed against the owners of the Sunrise Court apartments in Marshall. A current tenant is petitioning for emergency relief under the Tenant Remedies Act, Lyon County District Court records said.

Johnson, Walz debate on Oct. 9 

Gubernatorial candidates Tim Walz and Jeff Johnson will participate in a debate at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Willmar that will focus on rural and agricultural issues. The Minnesota Corn Growers Association , WCCO Radio and Minnesota AgriGrowth are hosting the debate and it will be broadcast live on WCCO Radio.

Bids opened for Willmar WYE Project 

Bids were opened Wednesday for the Willmar WYE Project. The official name is the Willmar Rail Connector & Industrial Access Project, and MnDot officials say at Wednesday's bid opening, the apparent best value proposer, The Hoffman Team, has been selected through the Design-Build best value process to design and construct the roads and bridges that are part of the project.
