At approximately 10:40 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 2 the Stearns County 911 Center received a report of an aircraft down in a corn field located in Luxemburg Township approximately three miles north of Watkins. The reporting parties indicated that they could see the tail of the aircraft sticking out of the standing corn.

Pilot unhurt in emergency landing in central Minnesota 

A crop-dusting pilot is OK after a mechanical problem forced him to make an emergency landing in a cornfield in central Minnesota. Stearns County authorities say 911 callers reported seeing the tail of the plane sticking out of the standing corn near Watkins on Thursday morning.

Central Minnesota man killed when jack slips under semi 

A 54-year-old rural Watkins man was killed Wednesday, Aug. 1, when a jack slipped out from under a semitruck he was working on and pinning him. According to the Stearns County Sheriff's Office, Joseph Edward Pauly was using a hydraulic bottle jack to work on a tire when it slipped in Luxemburg Township, about three miles northwest of Watkins.

Memorial Day 2018 

Memorial Day services were held throughout our area and, indeed, the country. A day set aside to commemorate all those who died in the service to their country.
