Former Cook County social services official admits child abuse 

The man who formerly oversaw social services in Cook County has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges stemming from an alleged pattern of child abuse. Joshua David Beck, 40, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor charges last month in State District Court in Two Harbors, according to court records.

With just under two weeks left in the 2018 open enrollment period, MNsure reminds Northeast Minnesota residents of important money-saving tax credits. Though the statewide household average for tax credits is around $7,000 per year, it is even higher in Northeast Minnesota, at more than $7,700 per year.

Frigid temps lead to fleet of ships anchored offshore in Duluth 

The frigid temperatures and end-of-season shipping rush on the Great Lakes have led to a traffic jam of giant 1,000-foot ships on Lake Superior outside Duluth. On New Year's Day there were nine huge freighters anchored outside the Aerial Lift Bridge in Duluth - arranged like in a game of Battleship - steam from the lake billowing around them, all waiting to load up with iron ore pellets in Duluth, Two Harbors, or Superior, Wis.

Vanilla Bean to open in former Northern Waters space 

The Vanilla Bean Restaurant, which has operated for more than 20 years in Two Harbors, will open its second restaurant in Duluth's Mount Royal Shopping Center, 1600 Woodland Avenue, on Feb. 1. The Duluth location will be open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant will also have a full liquor, beer and wine service, including a weekend Bloody Mary bar and fresh squeezed Mimosas.

Two Harbors Man Dies in Highway 61 Crash 

The Lake County Sheriff's Office says a Two Harbors man died in a crash on Highway 61 Friday morning. The head-on crash happened just north of Two Harbors at about 7 a.m. The name of the 39-year-old man who died has not yet been released.
