June 27, 2018 ] Torkelson joins race for Sheriff Top Story 

Chad Torkelson joins Stacy Braun, Mike Kaczmarek, Sean De- ringer, and Drew Scherber in run- ning for the position that became available last winter when current sheriff Joe Hagerty announced he would not run for re-election. Torkelson was raised on a dairy farm in central Minnesota where he learned family values as well as hard work, he said.

Online classes are beautiful music for rural Minnesota students 

Teaching artist Cheryl Henningsgaard of the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis led a remote class of preschoolers in Sunburg, Minn. To help ease the pressure on those teachers, the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis created a partnership program that allows districts to supplement their music offerings with online lessons and classes taught by MacPhail artists.

4-wheeler goes through ice on West Norway Lake 

A four-wheeler pulling an ice house broke through the ice of West Norway Lake yesterday afternoon. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's office says at 3:24 p.m. they were called to the lake near Sunburg after a four wheeler tried to cross an ice heave and broke through the ice.

Woman breaks through ice of Kandiyohi County lake 

A woman broke through the ice of a Kandiyohi County lake yesterday while trying to rescue a dog. The sheriff's department says the woman went onto the ice of Mary Lake around 3 p.m. to retrieve a dog when she broke through the ice.
