State Fair Mounted Patrol is part petting zoo, part crowd control 

The captain knocked on his camper door early, before 5 a.m., so Steve Roberts was in a bit of a rush to put on his uniform and his white cowboy hat and begin another season with the Minnesota State Fair Mounted Patrol. Back in 1969, when Roberts joined the fair's civilian patrol, his primary duty was to ride the perimeters to stop scofflaws from jumping the fence.

City, school board filings close for November 

In upcoming city elections there may be some appointing actions necessary after election day if multiple mayoral candidates, who are currently holding city council seats, should win.... There is a race for mayor in North Branch come this fall. According to the clerk, sitting councilmembers Jim Swenson and Robert Canada have filed for mayor.

4-H Hall of Fame 

Inducted into the Pipestone County 4-H Hall of Fame this year was the Dean and Nancy Stoltenberg family. The honor is given to a family annually after a vote by the 4-H Leaders Council, with the award presented prior to the Ribbon Auction on the last day of the Pipestone County Fair.
