Drug dealer's third-degree murder conviction upheld 

A drug dealer who sold heroin to a man - who overdosed and died less than two hours later at a Rochester halfway house - did play a role in the man's death, the Minnesota Court of Appeals said this week. The appellate court affirmed Darnell McDaniels' third-degree murder conviction in Olmsted County District Court with a 20-page opinion issued Tuesday.

Plastech owner offers college tuition to high school seniors While... 

While the CEO and owner of a Rush City, Minn.-based custom injection molder never attended college, he is giving the opportunity to local high school seniors who might otherwise not have had the chance. Dennis Frandsen, CEO and owner of Plastech Corp. and founder of parent company Frandsen Corp., announced in April that he is offering two years of paid tuition, as well as $1,000 toward textbooks and supplies, to Rush City High School seniors to attend Pine Technical and Community College in nearby Pine City, Minn.

Weekend traffic: A spate of road work for holiday travelers 

With the Memorial Day weekend kicking off the unofficial start of summer, millions will take to the roads for a getaway, AAA says, and locally the biggest travel may be outside the metro area as road work on Interstate 35 north and south of the metro area has the potential to tie up traffic. Interstate 35 is down to a single lane between Owatonna and Ellendale in southern Minnesota.
