Heard on the Street: New coffee drive-through to brighten up northwest Rochester 

After standing dark for four years, a former Rochester drive-through hamburger stand is slated to be resuscitated with a jolt of caffeine. A light bulb went off in the head of Bryce Fogelson as he looked at the former Snappy Stop drive-thru burger booth at 3550 55th St. N.W., tucked between Discount Tire and Affinity Credit Union in front of the Northwest Plaza shopping complex.

Mayo Clinic reports employee stole $300,000 in cash 

Mayo Clinic filed its annual 990 form with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service on Nov. 15. It included a section about the alleged theft. "In 2016, a theft of cash by an employee responsible for handling cash was discovered.

Man arrested in connection to drug bust 

Police responding to a report of a suspected drug transaction arrested Edward Gildersleve Monday at around 10:30 p.m. The call was to the 1500 block of North Broadway, in the parking lot of the shopping center near Silver Lake Foods and Burger King. after finding a bag containing 73 Tramadol pills without a prescription.

AmeriCorps to offer 3-day tutor positions 

AmeriCorps and its organizations, Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps, announced more flexibility with the positions it offers, including in Rochester. The new option includes a "three-day flex position" for those interested in tutoring in Minnesota schools part time, the organization said in a news release last week.

People saved, dog dies in NW Rochester apartment fire 

Rochester Fire Department crews responded to a reported kitchen fire at about 4:20 p.m. Sunday in the 2000 block of 41st Street Northwest at The Gates of Rochester apartment complex. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from an eight-unit building, according to a report by Battalion Commander Eric Kerska.

Political Notebook: Should governors be allowed to veto legislative funding? 

Calls are growing among some area lawmakers to put a proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot that would prohibit a governor from vetoing the legislature's funding. The push comes after DFL Gov. Mark Dayton vetoed the Legislature's $130 million operating budget in May. Last week, the Minnesota Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of the governor's veto, arguing the Legislature could tap into enough money to keep operating until at least Feb. 20 - the start of the 2018 session.
