Minnesota flood risk low despite historic April snowstorm 

A slow warmup over the next few days means there is only a low risk of flooding throughout Minnesota, with the potential for some minor floods at spots along the Minnesota River, the National Weather Service said Monday. Storm packing punch arrives in Minnesota 

The megastorm named "Xanto" that meteorologists have been forecasting all week arrived in southern Minnesota Friday morning, spinning up the first severe thunderstorm of the season and dumping enough hail in some places to cover roads 2 inches deep. Thunderstorms with small hail were grazing the southern suburbs at 11 a.m. Friday as the leading edge of what the National Weather Service in Chanhassen is calling a "memorable storm" pushed into the Twin Cities.

Ditch mowing legislation advances 

A bill requiring a one-year moratorium on enforcement of Minnesota Department of Transportation ditch mowing permits was heard by and passed by the Senate Transportation Finance and Policy Committee last week. The main author of Senate File 3569 is District 16 Senator and Assistant Majority Leader Gary Dahms, R-Redwood Falls.

Dahms' ditch mowing permit bill advances 

A bill requiring a one-year moratorium on enforcement of Minnesota Department of Transportation ditch mowing permits was heard by and passed by the Senate Transportation Finance and Policy Committee March 29. District 16 and Assistant Majority Leader Gary Dahms, R-Redwood Falls, is the chief author of Senate File 3569 that, if passed, would not allow MnDOT to enforce its permit rule to mow or bale hay in the right-of-way on a trunk highway until April 30, 2019. The bill awaits consideration by the full Senate.
