Red Wing library group to host Harvest Tea fundraiser 

A traditional three-course afternoon Harvest Tea will be served Saturday afternoon as a fundraiser for the Red Wing Public Library. The tea is sponsored by Friends of the Red Wing Public Library to raise funds for the research, writing and publishing of a history of the library.

Red Wing voters hear pitch on referendum 

In front of a crowded Red Wing City Council Chambers, Superintendent Karsten Anderson presented the financial needs of Red Wing Public Schools and the district's plans for the funds from two referendum questions. The district is asking voters to approve two levy questions on Nov. 6. The first is for a $1,200 per-pupil levy that would maintain current programs at the district.

Caravan du Nord concerts set for Red Wing, Austin 

Minnesota Music Coalition 's Caravan du Nord concerts will be presented in Red Wing and Austin the next two weekends. - The Suburbs will headline the event at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sheldon Theatre , 443 W. Third St. Red Wing.

Thoreau's Minnesota journey 'a tragic failure' 

A public domain image of Henry David Thoreau, as he appeared in 1856, five years before he traveled to Minnesota to seek a cure for his ailing health. Henry David Thoreau stayed at the Metropolitan Hotel at the base of Barn Bluff when he visited Red Wing in 1861.

Seen and Heard: 'Just some kid from K-M' makes his mark with D.C. group 

Nathan Loy , a senior at Kasson-Mantorville High School, currently serves as president of the Minnesota chapter of HOSA, a student organization for future health care professionals. Founded in 1976 in Arlington, Texas, HOSA serves students in seventh grade through college and has an international membership of over 220,000.

City of Red Wing puts sheriff candidate Kelly on paid leave 

Red Wing Council Administrator Kay Kuhlmann said an allegation was made to the city against Kelly last week, and the city placed Kelly on paid leave while it conducts an investigation. "They took my keys and my key fob and walked me out the door after a 30-year career, and they won't even give me a one-sentence explanation," Kelly said.

Answer Man: Can Barn Bluff go back to the buff? 

The Barn Bluff painting that started the brouhaha? A Prince symbol painted after the death of the Minnesota rock 'n' roll icon's death in 2016. A complaint to paint over the graffiti art and subsequent repainting of the symbol spurred a debate about painting on the side of the bluff overlooking downtown Red Wing.

Howe says he would focus on campaign rules 

Republican Secretary of State candidate John Howe has some pretty personal reasons for seeking the position, which oversees elections as well as issuing business permits. Howe, who served at term in the Minnesota Senate from Red Wing, was elected in 2010, and lost in 2012.
