The line for food at the Pine River State Bank centennial event Saturday, July 14, extended from the door of the bank to the food trailer in the corner of the parking lot, a good indicator of the popularity of the celebration.

Cass County Board: Commissioners request speed limit study on County Highway 77 

Cass County Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday night, July 17, at the regular meeting in Pine River Township Hall to seek a new Minnesota Department of Transportation study for speed limits on County Highway 77. SUV and deer collide, injuring passenger 

A Pine River man was injured when the SUV in which he was a passenger struck a deer at 10:14 p.m. Monday, July 16, on Highway 371 at Kappel Road in Fort Ripley Township.

DEED awards Small Cities Development Grants 

Improvements to housing stock, commercial buildings and public facilities are benefiting from grant dollars in cities across the lakes area. The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development awarded 35 grants totaling more than $19 million for rehabilitation and infrastructure projects in Greater Minnesota, including projects in Emily, Deerwood, Menahga, Onamia, Pine River, Verndale and Brainerd.

Autopsy: Cass Co. Bear Encounter Didn't Kill Man 

A man has died several days after an encounter with a bear in Cass County, but an autopsy found the bear did not cause the death. The incident happened in Ponto Lake Township, north of Pine River, on Friday, July 6. The Cass County Sheriff's Office says the 70-year-old man was attempting to scare a bear away from his yard when he was charged by another bear and thrown into the air.

Pine River: New building goes up at Cass County Fairgrounds 

The Cass County Agriculture Association announces a new agriculture building was built at the Cass County Fairgrounds in Pine River, made possible from County Fair Legacy Fund grant monies to be used for agriculture displays, storage, events and as a ticket booth at the fair.
