Pine River: Council makes final airport payment4 min ago 

The Pine River City Council approved a final payment on the summer airport project at its meeting Tuesday, Jan. 9. The council also made its annual appointments, renewing those for Bryan Drown as city engineer, Ted Lundrigan as city attorney, and PineandLakes Echo Journal as print publication.

It is the beginning of a new year, and all of us may start fresh. The adult human winter reading program commenced Jan. 2. "Snow time to read" runs from now until March 31. For the uninitiated, this means that you pick up a pre-printed empty reading list and fill it with 15 books that you have read during these cold winter months.

Rash of burglaries connected to 2 suspects 

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office arrested 37-year-old Charles Weber of Milaca Friday, and he was charged with second-degree burglary Tuesday in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd.
