Suspect hiding under bed found with machete 

Olmsted County Sheriff's deputies on Wednesday arrested a Rochester man after he was found "partially hidden" underneath a bed, with a machete nearby. The incident began around 5 p.m., as Olmsted County Sheriff's deputies were executing a search warrant at an Oronoco home in the 100 block of Third Street Southeast.

Council hears proposal for regional wastewater plant 

The proposal to build a $40.9 million regional facility to serve Pine Island, Oronoco and part of Northwest Rochester met with concerns about additional costs since a plant could spur sprawling development beyond expectations limits in Rochester. "I would be concerned we would be setting up ourselves for other shortfalls," said Council Member Nick Campion, who noted the added development would come with added transit and public safety costs.

Council members to hear construction proposals 

During its weekly committee of the whole meeting at 3:30 p.m. in room 104 of City Hall, 201 Fourth St. SE, the council will receive updates on a Police Department North Station master plan, as well as a proposal for a regional wastewater facility. In September of 2016, the city council approved purchasing the former Think Mutual Bank site at 4001 West River Parkway for $3.2 million to create a new police precinct.

Metal melter sparks hot debate in Oronoco Township 

The people of Oronoco - the city and the township - are keeping their eyes on an automotive salvage business, claiming the new owners have started a metal melting business that brings noise and air and water pollution to the city. On Tuesday, those concerns came back to the Oronoco Township Board, which is working with the city of Oronoco to find answers and make sure the local residents are protected.
