2017 new faces, old friends, the year in review 

The North Branch Area public schools community is sending positive wishes to Superintendent Dr. Deb Henton who is in the running to be selected as superintendent of the year nationally. Henton was named Minnesota's Superintendent of the Year in the fall.

NB's Brandt Bombard pinned CL's Jake Novack on Thursday, December 21.They both worked for position here. Cambridge-Isanti Triangular The Vikings and Wildcats met up for a dual at the Cambridge-Isanti Triangular last Thursday, December 21. The Vikings came out on top, beating the Wildcats 39-24.

Waste fee may be upped for 2018 recycling enhancements 

Government fees seem to be a topic of discussion now with North Branch en route to a city franchise fee to pay for road work, Chisago Lakes Area officeholders are reviewing collecting a lodging fee and-- finding itself falling short of recycling mandates-- the county solid waste fee looms as a source of new revenue, to promote waste management practices. The fee is $10 on your property tax statement and $20 is an option.

North Branch Council sets franchise fees on 3-2 vote 

The franchise fee was adopted last week on a split vote of the North Branch City Council, after about 90 minutes of discussion on estimated revenues for a variety of fee structures. Council looked at revenue from a fee of $5 solely on electric franchise customers, or doing $3 and $3 on electric and gas franchise accounts and other configurations; before settling on a fee of $3.50 for electric and $2 for natural gas utility subscribers.

North Branch School Board adopts 2018 levy 

School districts typically at this time of year are reviewing their current annual budget to see if any revisions need to be made, and reviewing the audit for the year just completed, AND adopting a levy for the upcoming year's property taxes. North Branch School Board did just that last week, with board members Kirby Ekstrom and Darryl Goebel absent.
