Guest Opinion: Looking forward to the 2018 legislative session 

The 2018 legislative session is set to begin on Feb. 20 and I am looking forward to another year working for you and your family in St. Paul. Serving our community is a great responsibility and I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunity to represent the people of District 10A.

3. Simar to sign copies of books Saturday at Nisswa bookstore 

Candace Simar, author of the Abercrombie Trail series novels, will sign copies of her books from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Turtle Town Books and Gifts in Nisswa.

Church News for Feb. 16 

First Lutheran Church will have its annual meeting 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary after the second service. Support the youth while they are grocery bagging at Super One from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, and Feb. 23 and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 24. Lenten Holden Evening Prayer services begin Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will go through March 21. There will be a soup supper each of these Wednesdays.

Police Blotter - Feb 16 

A 26-year-old man was arrested at 1:56 a.m. Feb. 5 for fourth-degree driving while intoxicated during a traffic stop on Crow Wing County Road 11 and Knotty Pine Road, Pequot Lakes. ARREST-A 73-year-old man was arrested at 3:32 p.m. Feb. 8 for fourth-degree DWI during a traffic stop on Sibley Street and Pequot Boulevard.

Nisswa: Council member alleges improper conduct by mayor - Both share their thoughts

Tension between a Nisswa City Council member and the mayor has been evident at several city council meetings in the past year, and now council member Ross Krautkremer has filed an information report with the Nisswa Police Department alleging improper conduct by Mayor Fred Heidmann because of an encounter at church where Krautkremer's family was present.

5. Nisswa Student Council makes craft with Senior Class Care residents 

The Nisswa Student Council was invited to join residents at Senior Class Care before Thanksgiving to take part in a craft activity and to eat lunch.

Our Opinion: Crow Wing looking in the right direction to save Pequot fire tower 

That's why we appreciate Crow Wing County's-and specifically Commissioner Paul Thiede's- efforts to save for future generations the Pequot Lakes fire tower. When the tower closed in June of 2017, a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources official said the agency would be open to having another entity take over the site.
