Minnesota State Old Time Fiddle Championships set for Aug. 4 

The Minnesota State Old Time Fiddle Championships, in their seventh year at Mountain Iron's Merritt School, will take place Aug. 4. The contest is open to all United States and Canadian fiddlers as well as all other stringed instrumentalists, said a press release. The championship division is certified by the National Old Time Fiddlers' Association, so the state champion will qualify to compete at the National Old Time Fiddle Championships in Weiser, Idaho.

Body of Missing Indiana Woman Found in Northland, Suspect Sought 

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for a man after the body of a missing Indiana woman was found in northern Minnesota. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says investigators located the body of Christina Marie Woods in a shallow grave in Beatty Township, near Cook, on Monday.

Indiana man sought in northern Minnesota homicide 

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for Daniel Gregory Lynn, 40, of South Bend, Ind., on Tuesday. He was seen near Duluth and the cities of Virginia and Mountain Iron at the time of the homicide, according to a Sheriff's Office news release.

Mountain Iron Family Celebrates New Home 

With the help of the North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity, Karen Kniefel's new home was officially dedicated in Mountain Iron on Sunday. With her home now about 99% complete, in a short amount of time, the Karen's family will be comfortably settled in.

CN Cleans Up Minor Derailment on Range 

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office says there were no injuries when several rail cars carrying iron ore derailed south of Mountain Iron on Sunday morning. The derailment happened on track near County Highway 101 in the Wolf area at about 8:20 a.m. Canadian National Railroad Police reported the incident to the sheriff's office.
