The Regional Report: Isle fires city administrator; Staples-Motley settles on school building option 

All voted in favor of the motion except Mayor Ernie Frie. The issue was discussed at a Jan. 29 meeting as well, and Turk told the newspaper following that meeting he would not resign as the council had directed him to.

5. Alison Scott to perform Jan. 26 in Staples 

Alison Scott will perform as a part of the Staples Motley Area Arts Council's season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, in Centennial Auditorium in Staples.

The Nisswa Chamber hosted 250 seventh- and eighth-grade Junior Achievement students from Staples-Motley and Pillager schools Wednesday, Jan. 24, and Friday, Jan. 26, when downtown Nisswa was chosen for a job shadowing module.

Staples-Motley junior named ExCEL award winner 

Staples-Motley High School junior Scout Strickland was one of 36 winners to receive the Minnesota State High School League ExCEL Award. ExCEL-Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership-is a recognition program designed exclusively for Minnesota high school juniors active in school activities who show leadership qualities and who work voluntarily in their community.

The Regional Report: Pierz voters to consider referendum again, Motley police chief facing complaint 

A camera crew filmed and conducted interviews at the First Lutheran Church in Aitkin, where 80-100 people gather Mondays and Thursdays for the free meal. First organized by community members 18 years ago, a Twin Cities-based organization partnered on the project in 2016.
