Hermantown woman charged with murder after OD 

A Hermantown woman is charged with third-degree murder for her role in the overdose death of a Moose Lake woman in August. Dawn Marie Clemons, 39, was charged in Sixth Judicial District Court after Leah Michele Olsen, 38, was found dead Aug. 5. According to the criminal complaint, Olsen's roommate discovered her unresponsive on the floor of their home at about 6:30 p.m. Aug. 5. The roommate told the Moose Lake Police Department he had last seen Olsen alive at about 4 p.m. He said something was "off" with Olson and he suspected she had been using methamphetamine.

But Jana Peterson, editor and co-owner of the Pine Knot News, was undeterred a couple of weeks ago as she drove to Cambridge, Minn., to pick up bundles of the inaugural edition. "Well, I have a van," said Peterson, explaining why she personally made the three-hour round trip to the printer while fielding calls on her cellphone from potential advertisers and subscribers.

Locally-owned newspaper launches in Cloquet 

The new Pine Knot is located in the space formerly occupied by the Pine Journal, owned by Forum Communications. Forum has consolidated many of its community newspaper offices in Duluth.

Brainerd man gets prison time for failing to register as sex offender39 min ago 

Scott C. Blader, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced Nicholas Edwards, 38 of Brainerd, pleaded guilty and was sentenced Oct. 16 by Chief U.S. District Judge James D. Peterson to 27 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender.
