Fillmore County driver injured in rollover 

Payton Myra Danielson, 17 of Mabel, was driving west on Highway 44 when she went off into the north ditch and rolled. The Minnesota State Patrol says Danielson suffered a non-life threatening injury and was taken to Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for treatment.

Newburg Township board approves year-long feedlot moratorium 

The Newburg Township Board voted 2-1 on Thursday to adopt a one-year moratorium on the construction of feedlots with more than 500 animal units. The moratorium will directly affect the 4,980-head swine facility proposed by Catalpa LLC, 10 miles east of Harmony.

Rochester man killed in Fillmore County crash 

Edward Martin Jr., 64, of Rochester, died Sunday as he was riding his 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Highway 43 about 10 miles north of Mabel, where the highway meets the south fork of the Root River. Martin lost control and the motorcycle left the roadway and struck a sign.

New broadband company to serve rural southeast Minnesota 

Three local cooperatives announced Tuesday they will work together to create a new broadband company that will provide broadband to underserved rural areas. According to a release, Mabel Cooperative Telephone Co., MiEnergy Cooperative and Spring Grove Communications will create a new company, MiBroadband, and will work to supply fixed, wireless broadband to areas of Southeast Minnesota and Northeast Iowa.

Faster internet expanding to rural areas 

HARMONY, Minn.- Mabel cooperative telephone company, MiEnergy Cooperative and Spring Grove Communication are joining together to create a new company called MiBroadband. They are in the early stages, but MiBroadband plans to increase broadband towers around the area, bringing faster internet speeds to rural communities.
