Repairs coming for storm-damaged roads in Lyon County, highway engineer says 

Repairs are still underway on Lyon County roads, two weeks after severe rains caused washouts and other damage around the county. County Highway Engineer Aaron VanMoer said crews will be working on two roads that have been closed after culverts washed away.

Smith's legislation addresses plight of rural education 

Last April, parents and teachers stood up and spoke during a Lynd Public Schools school board meeting. The teachers presented a case that teachers dedicated to their profession deserve commensurate compensation.

Communities in dire need of disaster aid 

It was good to see Gov Mark Dayton, U.S. Sen Tina Smith and U.S. Rep. Colin Peterson touring flooded areas in southwest Minnesota. All three traveled the region looking at damage caused by flooding this past week.

Assessing the damage 

Along with several other area towns, Tracy is still cleaning up after the flood resulting from the record-breaking, heavy rains July 2-3. Twenty-five locations of city-owned infrastructure had some sort of damage, with a rough estimate of $250,000 required in repairs, Tracy City Administrator Kris Ambuehl said Monday.

A mayor and neighbors come to the rescue 

I just drove up the road toward Clear Lake in Russell when I spotted a yellow Russell Fire Department truck parked on the side of the road. It was parked next to a water pumper.

A nightmare' 

Tuesday's weather event dumped several inches of rain on southwest Minnesota. While some of the most severe damage was reported in communities like Tracy, the effects of the rain were felt in Marshall and across Lyon County.
