Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation awards $65,000 in grants... 

Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation approved five grants totaling $65,000 to support education and technical support for new or existing entrepreneurs and businesses, and to build resources for creating a sustainable and resilient food economy for southern Minnesota. A total of $45,000 in Economic Development Grants, designed to support new collaborative initiatives for entrepreneurial and business growth, were awarded to three organizations: a $15,000 to the Faribault Diversity Coalition to promote economic growth in downtown Faribault by providing an attractive and functional co-working space for start-up entrepreneurs and small businesses seeking an affordable and client-friendly work environment.

Fireworks Forecast: 90s, Humid and Possible Showers on the 4th of July 

KSTP Meteorologist Nicole Mitchell said temperatures will hover in the 90s Wednesday. She added dew points in the 70s, which are expected Wednesday, are a sign of mugginess and humidity levels are expected to be at about 91 percent.

Blue Earth ready to get REVed up 

With the help of the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation , the city of Blue Earth is in the beginning stages of jumpstarting the local economy. Along with Lake City, Spring Grove, Le Sueur, Lanesboro and Spring Valley, Blue Earth was chosen by SMIF to participate in the Rural Entrepreneurial Venture, or REV program.

Rising Minnesota River threatens valley roadways 

Officials from the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Mankato office said Monday the Highway 99 bridge at St. Peter remained opened but may have to close later in the week due to the rising river.

Flooding closes several roads along Minnesota River 

Recent rains have caused moderate flooding of the Minnesota River between Mankato and the Twin Cities, leading to the closure of a few bridges and highways, with the weather forecast threatening more to come. "We do have a fairly decent flood for a summertime going down the Minnesota River especially, as well as the tributaries," said Craig Schmidt, service hydrologist with the National Weather Service in Chanhassen.
