Paul Francis Mosley, 61 

Paul Francis Mosley, age 61, born in Lakefield, MN, passed away suddenly from natural causes at his home in Burnsville, MN on April 13, 2018. Paul grew up in Lakefield MN where he graduated from Lakefield H.S. and then Mankato State University.

County to gather together to pray 

Jackson County residents will fold their hands and bow their heads with the rest of the country next Thursday during the annual local commemoration of the National Day of Prayer. Times of prayer will take place the morning of May 3 at the Jackson County Central schools in Lakefield and Jackson and culminate with a noon service at the flagpole in front of the county courthouse in Jackson.

Summerfest to celebrate the sweet l... 

Residents of Lakefield will celebrate the sweet life this summer. "We think living in Lakefield is sweet," said Deanne Hall, chair of the Lakefield Summerfest planning committee.

Eugene E. Smith, 57 

A Memorial Service for Eugene Smith, age 57 of Eagle Bend, MN, formerly of Lakefield, was at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 20, 2018, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Lakefield, MN with Pastor Dale Hedstrom officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.

Wittrock, Hussong reign as Valley V... 

Willis Wittrock and Evie Hussong, both longtime Lakefield area residents, are the reigning St. Patrick's Day king and queen of Valley View Assisted Living in Lakefield. One happy Hussong Hussong said she was honored to be chosen as St. Patrick's Day queen last month, even though she said it was probably just the luck of the draw.

Local social worker set to be honor... 

A woman who has dedicated her life's work to helping those who have been victimized - or those who just need a little help - is this year's Southwest Crisis Center Faces of Hope honoree from Jackson County. Angie Titus of Jackson, a children's mental health case manager with Family Services Network for the past 10 years and longtime contracted school social worker at Riverside Elementary School in Jackson, will be honored at the annual Southwest Crisis Center's Faces of Hope Banquet this Saturday in Pipestone.

County digs out ahead of second bla... 

Jackson County dug out from a wicked winter storm this past weekend just in time for another. The county was slammed by a powerful winter storm system Saturday and into Sunday that dropped between 10 and 15 inches of heavy snow on the ground and came accompanied by nearly 50-mile-per-hour wind gusts.

Back in Business 

Snow still covers much of North Valley Golf Course in Lakefield, but folks are gearing up for another season of golf. That was never a guarantee after a season last year described by locals as "bizarre," "crazy" and "unbelievable."

Departing PEBC director is proud of... 

Freya Thurmer says she is leaving the Prairie Ecology Bus Center in good hands. Thurmer, who has served as executive director of the Lakefield-based ecology bus center since August 2016, has resigned her post, effective next month.

Council signs off on street work 

Members of the Lakefield City Council this week signed off on a plan to improve portions of Broadway Avenue, Summer Lane and North Hunter Street - all for a cool $1.65 million. That's about a half-million less than the estimated project cost put forth by engineering firm Short Elliott Hendrickson earlier this year.

Milbrath nabs top businessman honor 

Okabena area native David Milbrath has been named the runner-up for Connect Business Magazine's Businessperson of the Year honor. Milbrath was recognized for his expertise in the field of asset management, having created more than $500 million of wealth for his clients since 1991 through his company, Prairie Plans Asset Management.

Charges filed following standoff 

A Lakefield man faces felony charges after holing up in his Bush Street residence with a gun, sparking a five-hour multi-agency standoff last week. Brandon E. Hemphill, 47, was arrested early Friday morning after members of the High-risk Entry and Arrest Team, a regional tactical team made up of officers from southern Minnesota and northern Iowa law enforcement agencies, convinced him to exit the residence on his own accord.

A Celebration of Live Service for Emma Ladehoff, age 101 of Windom, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2018, at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom with Pastor Paul Sajban officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Lakefield.
