Finley Engineering Group receives four ASBI Awards of Excellence 

Finley Engineering Group, a Tallahassee-based bridge design and construction engineering firm, received four awards of excellence from the American Segmental Bridge Institute during the ninth biennial, 2017 ASBI Bridge Award of Excellence competition. The Finley team was recognized recently for the following bridge projects: the I-5 Antlers Bridge Replacement, the New Dresbach Bridge, the New Winona Bridge and the Oakley C. Collins Memorial Bridge.

Property owners near La Crescent weighing options over potential forced annexation 

The La Crescent city council last week voted in favor of a preliminary development agreement for a project that could see 75 homes build on a property off of County Hwy. 6. That, however, could mean dozens of other properties will be forced to pay for utilities to go to that development.

Neighbors object to La Crescent racetrack housing development plan 

A proposed housing development along County Road 6 near La Crescent is being promoted as a way to provide more space for home-building in the community. People living just outside the city of La Crescent object to the notion that they'll have to be annexed within 10 years, if the city extends water and sewer to the proposed development area.

Controversy over City of La Crescent development plans 

Plans to extend the City of La Crescent's water and sewer lines as well as a proposed 75 unit housing project leave some homeowners feeling left out of the process and facing a major unexpected expense. A local developer aims to turn land located off County Road 6, also known as the "Racetrack Property," into a residential development area.

Grants kick-start energy efficiency projects 

A Department of Commerce program to kick-start energy efficiency around the state named 39 projects, from LED lighting in La Crescent to solar panel systems analysis for dairy farmers in west-central Minnesota, in its latest round of grant awards. The projects were chosen from 72 requests from cities, churches, nonprofits, American Indian bands, a food co-op and other groups looking for ways to go renewable or cut their energy bills, or both.
