Brothers charged with felony kidnapping and assault 

Two brothers are in Pipestone County Jail facing charges of kidnapping and assault after they allegedly picked up two individuals in South Dakota, held them against their will and beat one of them. According to criminal complaints filed Oct. 12 in Pipestone County District Court, Elvin Evelio Davila Marin, 30, of Pequot Lakes, Minn., and Wilson Uriel Davila Marin, 26, of Watertown, S.D., were arrested the evening of Oct. 10 after a motorist reported to law enforcement that their vehicle was driving 30 mph in a 60 mph zone and was all over the road in both lanes on state Highway 23 north of Jasper.

William a oeBilla Thies 

William "Bill" Paul Thies was born on April 4, 1935 in a snow blizzard to Laurence and Julia Thies in Moody County, S.D. He attended school in Dailey District 18 in South Dakota through the eighth grade. He then went to Pipestone High School in Pipestone graduating in 1953.

Single-stream recycling delayed until January 

The new single-stream recycling program that was scheduled to begin Oct. 1 in Pipestone County will not likely be rolled out until around Jan. 1. Pipestone County was planning to implement the system at the beginning of next month so any glitches could be worked out before winter. The project was delayed after the county received a grant agreement from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency later than expected.
