Want to run for elected office? 

The candidate filing period for elected office opens Tuesday, May 22 and closes Tuesday, June 5 at 5 p.m. The filing period includes federal, state, county and soil and water conservation district candidates, as well as the city of Pipestone. All other cities within Pipestone County, and all its school districts, do not have primaries and therefore have a second filing date of Tuesday, July 31 - Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 5 p.m. This second filing period also applies to all townships that hold elections in November, which includes only Gray and Osborne townships in Pipestone County.

Single-stream recycling beginning Oct. 1 

Pipestone County plans to implement its new single-stream recycling program beginning Oct. 1, according to a contract with Van Dyke Sanitation that was approved by the county board on April 10. In addition to no longer requiring residents to sort their recyclables, the contract with the Edgerton company expands curbside collection of recyclables to all cities in the county and businesses. Under the current contract with Van Dyke, curbside pick up is only offered for residences in Pipestone, Edgerton, Jasper and Ruthton.

Lorraine Johnson 

Casket bearers were James Johnson, Jon Bierne, Ron Hellie, Nathan Taylor, Matt Taylor, Pat Bierne, Bill Berkeland and Levi Taylor. Evelyn Lorraine Johnson was born on Dec. 25, 1923 in Dell Rapids, S.D. to Olaf and Ida Berkeland.

Wayne Amdahl 

Wayne Arlan Amdahl, age 77 years and two days died April 3, 2018, at the Pipestone County Hospice House, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. He was the loving husband of Karen ; the devoted father of Jeffrey of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jason of Mankato, Minnesota, and Joel of Mankato; and the cherished grandfather of Chane, Jenner, Jenessa, Jackson, Jenson, Jessa and Jamison, for whom he made his world famous oatmeal waffles every time they were around; he was the brother to Dean of Colorado, Glen of Sioux Falls, and Carol Foss of Pipestone, Minnesota, and the wonderful uncle and great uncle to many.

The use of sports metaphors in our weekly, if not daily, speech is something we're all quite used to - no matter what the field you might earn your living or where you might reside in the nation. Baseball phrases abound, likening this to that or offered as a picture of explanationa covering all the bases , right off the bat , stepping up to the plate , etc.
