Private dollars for Rochester build-out top $428 million 

For all the hundreds of millions invested so far in Rochester's Destination Medical Center effort, there's still a long way to go to hit the final goal of $5.5 billion in new development. Since 2013, total private investment was pegged at $428.7 million at the end of 2017.

New Ulm Quilt Show has 400 quilts on display 

Quilting enthusiasts from across Southern Minnesota and as far away as Johnson City, N.Y. made a beeline to the 2018 New Ulm Quilt Show at the New Ulm Event Center March 23. More than 400 quilts are on display at the event presented by the Prairie Piecemakers, a local organization of quilt lovers, novices and experts, who share their love of fabric, design, color and the finished product. Doris Crone, first president of the guild and the first area quilter to buy a long-arm quilting machine and offer quilting to others as a business, is the featured quilter.

Vang receives 6-year sentence for pattern of stalking 

A Stewartville man received a 6-year prison sentence - an upward departure from sentencing guidelines - for a pattern of stalking that authorities say contributed to a woman's death. Long Vang, 36, in January was convicted of a pattern of stalking conduct, a felony, after 26-year-old Jessica Haban, with whom he had an 11-year relationship, died by suicide on Dec. 16, 2015, at her Stewartville home.
