Rochester Man Sentenced In Hibbing Officer-Involved Shooting 

HIBBING A Rochester man in a officer-involved shooting in Hibbing was sentenced to 10 years in prison, eligible for parole after two-thirds of serving time, Thursday at the St. Louis County Courthouse. 25-year-old Che Nathaniel Jones was convicted on three counts.

Bust to boom: Iron Range revives just as trade war looms 

President Donald Trump will be greeted Wednesday, in his first visit to northern Minnesota, with a renewed optimism about the economy, including in Hibbing, which was hit hard by a downturn in the taconite industry just two years ago. While some on the Iron Range are already feeling some effects of tariffs against China, the iron ore industry is squarely behind Trump's strategy.

Four northern Minnesota companies have filed an involuntary Chapter 7 bankruptcy petition against ERP Iron Ore LLC of Grand Rapids. Led by millionaire Thomas Clarke, ERP purchased the assets of Magnetation at a 2016 bankruptcy auction.

Northern Minnesota mining company CEO makes top pay list 

HIBBING, Minn.-Lourenco Goncalves, chairman, president and CEO of Cleveland-Cliffs that is working on mining projects in northern Minnesota, ranked 46th in a recent analysis of CEO compensation in 2017 by Equilar, which annually conducts a study for The New York Times. The top-200 highest-paid CEOs were published in the Sunday edition of the Times, which analyzes executives at public companies with at least $1 billion in annual revenue that filed proxies last year by April 30. According to Equilar, Goncalves earned a base salary of $1.3 million in 2017, a cash bonus of more than $9.2 million and other perks totaling $536,946.
