County Road 20 project awarded 

The Chisago County Board awarded the bid last week for replacing the County State Aid Highway #20 bridge on the channel between North Center and North Lindstrom lakes. The Redstone Construction Company of Mora had the low bid, of five that the county engineer received, coming in at $2,410,633.

North Branch Council sets franchise fees on 3-2 vote 

The franchise fee was adopted last week on a split vote of the North Branch City Council, after about 90 minutes of discussion on estimated revenues for a variety of fee structures. Council looked at revenue from a fee of $5 solely on electric franchise customers, or doing $3 and $3 on electric and gas franchise accounts and other configurations; before settling on a fee of $3.50 for electric and $2 for natural gas utility subscribers.

John Ploetz 

John Ploetz of Harris, known as owner/operator of Lofgren Trucking of Rush City, passed away at the age of 75, Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the Hennepin County Medical Center a result of an automobile accident at Stark. John Charles Ploetz was born on December 4, 1942 in Winona, Minnesota.

Motorist accused of running stop sign north of Twin Cities, killing... 

The driver accused of running a stop sign north of the Twin Cities and killed another motorist has a long history of traffic violations that includes driving on a suspended license, many instances of speeding and disregarding a stop sign, according to state court records. Heidi L. Butau, 44, was identified Thursday as the driver who struck John C. Ploetz, 75, of Harris, Minn., about 5 miles northeast of Cambridge on Sunday.

Rest areas allow travelers on long-distance trips to pull off for a quick pit stop or stretch their legs and walk the dog. Drowsy drivers can catch a few winks.
