Rock the Caucus 

The political party faithful will do a lot more than simply cast their votes in 11 months. This option is available to all constituents as well beginning in a couple of weeks with the precinct caucuses that will be held across the state on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. "Caucus is an excellent event to attend for anyone who desires a greater involvement in the political process than just voting in November," said Gene Raak, who is the chair of the Pipestone County Republican party.

New child day cares answer call to fill increasing need 

Sisters-in-law Michele Gregoire and Malissa Smidt say they were acting on a good opportunity when they decided to open their own child day care center. Smidt had been running her own day care in her home for a number of years.

Chippewa County in Minnesota is solar industry's latest frontier 

The latest frontier in the solar power industry's growth in Minnesota is found in Chippewa County, where workers are completing the third of three solar garden projects undertaken in the past year. Berkshire Hathaway Energy, working with Geronimo Energy, is developing the solar gardens as part of Xcel Energy's Solar Rewards Community Program.

Christmas Tree Disposal 

Christmas tree pick-up and disposal service is once again to be provided to residents of New Ulm by the city street department. Residents are requested to remove all ribbon, wire, ornaments, tinsel AND PLASTIC BAGS, then place the trees on the boulevard area of the intersection nearest their home or business.

Commissioners to reorganize Jan. 2 

Commissioners will also consider a 3.2% liquor license application by the River Valley Dutchmen Snowmobile Club and resolutions for a revised FTA Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy and supporting maintenance of local license bureaus. In addition, they will consider a Brown County Legal Services contract for CHIPS attorneys.

Accused burglars picked the wrong target, a Minn. sheriff's home 

Two burglary suspects are in custody after a homeowner's home security system alerted him Wednesday, Dec. 27, that a vehicle was in the driveway of his rural home while his 12-year-old son was home alone. The homeowner hopped into his squad car, contacted his son en route and shortly afterward, pulled the suspects over on a rural roadway and with gun drawn, took them into custody with the help of a sheriff's deputy and the Granite Falls police chief.
