Day in History: Elgin-area man lost at sea 

It was requested that traffic lights be placed at the intersection of U.S. 52 and Goodhue 24. a Lake Shady will be stocked this summer with crappies and sunfish as well as largemouth bass. Lake Shady has been known in the past as the home of the carp and bullhead.

Missed opportunities bring 'Blue Morning, Blue Day' 

Last week, I got a note from the fine folks at Treasure Island informing me that the choir from Goodhue High School would be singing with the classic rock band Foreigner. Like all diligent reporters, I took the immediate, necessary action that this tip required: I went to the band's Wikipedia page to look up all their big hits.

Red Wing bakery competes for 'Sweetest' award 

Habitually on any short list of Minnesota's best bakeries, Hanisch Bakery and Coffee Shop is aiming for a bigger prize. Through July 31, Hanisch is in competition to be named the second annual "Sweetest Bakery in America," in a contest being run by Dawn Foods, a Jackson, Mich., bakery manufacturer and ingredients supplier.

Collision on icy road sends pair to hospital 

A car collided with a pickup east of Kenyon at about 7:23 Tuesday morning, sending the car's driver and passenger to the hospital. Elizabeth Shellito, 31, of Charlotte, Mich., was eastbound on Minnesota Highway 60 about three miles east of Kenyon when her car crossed the centerline on the icy road, colliding with a westbound pickup driven by Daniel Plaisance, 54, of Faribault, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol.

Crash at I-90 interchange by Stewartville sends one to hospital 

Alexandra Vanderwerf, 19, of Lakeville had exited I-90 westbound at the Stewartville exit at about 1:22 p.m. and was attempting to turn onto Hwy. 63 when she pulled forward and the 1993 Buick Riviera she was driving struck a 1996 Dodge Ram driven by Isaac Hamlin, 30, of LeRoy, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol.

Red Wing teen gets April 11 court date 

The Red Wing woman who was arrested last Thursday for making threats via social media and filing a false police report was released from the Goodhue County Jail. Keyah Mizer, 18, a senior at Red Wing High School, was released on her own recognizance along with a series of stipulations including no contact with the victims and to generally remain law-abiding.

Elgin man injured in Hwy. 63 crash 

Andrew Christopher Chilson, 30, of Elgin was driving north on U.S. Highway 63 about a mile north of 75th Street at about 7:22 p.m. when he lost control of his 2008 Toyota Prius. The car crossed over the centerline and nearly struck a southbound vehicle head-on, according to a report from the Minnesota State Patrol.
