New Senator makes trip to the Range first week on the job 

Less than a week into her new job as U.S. Senator, Tina Smith visited with United Steelworkers and a rural broadband roundtable Saturday, her first trip to the Iron Range as part of the Minnesota congressional delegation.

BCA: Twin Cities man fired first, then was shot dead by officers on Iron Range 

A Twin Cities man was the first to shoot in an exchange of gunfire with two law enforcement officers on the Iron Range that left him dead and a sheriff's deputy wounded, state investigators have revealed. Jeffrey John Golnick, 40, of Chaska, died in the foot pursuit early in the afternoon on Dec. 22 in Gilbert, about 4 miles northeast of Eveleth, after opening fire and wounding a St. Louis County sheriff's deputy, according to the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension .

5 Treated for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning at Fitzgerald Nursing Home 

According to the Eveleth Fire Department, five people from the Fitzgerald Nursing Home and Rehab in Eveleth were being treated for carbon monoxide poisoning Sunday morning. The fire department said it may have been a generator that wasn't venting properly.

Small economic development projects follow recovery of Iron Range taconite industry 

The Iron Range wrapped up 2017 with a flurry of demolition, building and job training projects designed to end blight and sprinkle economic development across communities in the Northeast pocket of Minnesota, state officials announced Friday. The projects are the latest good news for the Iron Range, which is recovering from a two-year downturn in the iron ore and taconite pellet industry that dominates that part of the state.

Scenic Rivers Health Services Medical Clinic has been expanding, and they recently added two new medical care providers to the team at the Cook Medical Clinic.
