Filing ends for county offices 

Filings wrapped up Tuesday for those seeking public office in Martin and Faribault counties. Just one race in the counties is headed for the primary election on Aug. 14. Two challengers have emerged to battle Dan Schmidtke of rural Fairmont for his District 4 seat on the Martin County Commission.

Several file for county's open offices 

Several people have filed for the open offices in Faribault County, and all of them are the incumbents, so far. The filing period to be on the ballot in this coming fall election began last Tuesday, May 22, and will continue through to Tuesday, June 5, at 5 p.m. Filing so far are John Thompson for county auditor-treasurer, Sheryl "Sherry" Asmus for county recorder, Mike Gormley for county sheriff, Kathryn Karjala-Curtis for county attorney and Greg Young for District 2 county commissioner.

Ann M. Burghardt, 44, of Rolla, Mo.; Ana M. Escogido, 30, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Steven D. Supalla, 37, of Wells; each fined $125. Gladys A. Solis Pacheco, 32, of Humboldt, Iowa, was convicted of no Minnesota drivers license; fined $185.

Minnesota Pork Producers React To Chinese Tariffs 

The announcement came Monday that pork exports from the U.S. will be slapped with a 25 percent tariff, in response to tariffs imposed on Chinese steel and aluminum in March. With her husband, Stevermer runs Trails End Farm in Easton, Minnesota.
