Klimek pleads not guilty in 2013 murder case 

A 30-year-old Alexandria man accused in a 2013 fatal stabbing is scheduled for a jury trial on March 5 after pleading not guilty to three murder charges. His was charged in September with two second-degree murder counts - intentional and unintentional - and a third-degree murder charge in connection with the stabbing death of Phillip Altstadt, 28, on June 1, 2013, near the Lincoln Estates apartment complex at Sixth Avenue East and McKay Avenue in Alexandria.

CTC Tours SEEDFOLKS To New York, Nebraska and Greater Minnesota 

Children's Theatre Company will bring its production of Seedfolks on a three-month tour to eight cities across Minnesota, Omaha and Lincoln , Nebraska and to The New Victory Theater, New York. The organization received significant tour support from the Minnesota State Arts Board's Arts Tour Minnesota grant to bring Seedfolks to nine theatres across Minnesota including the Memorial Auditorium Performing Arts Center , Myles Reif Performing Arts Center , Fairmont Opera House , Historic Holmes Theatre , Sheldon Theatre of Performing Arts , Backus Community Center , Central Lakes Community Performing Arts Center and Memorial Auditorium in the spring of 2018.

'The Legend of King Isbit' 

By now, most of northwest Minnesota knows that Detroit Lakes will soon be getting its very own ice palace - courtesy of the first ice harvest to be conducted here since the early 1970s. But have you heard of the jolly spirit who will be inhabiting the halls of said palace? A close friend of Polar Fest's official "spokes-bear," Polar Pete, King Isbit comes with a legend all his own.

DWI arrests in Minnesota during holiday season 

The holiday season has ended and Minnesota Department of public Safety Office of Traffic has released the results of its DWI campaign that ran from Nov. 22 through Dec. 31. During that time 2,656 drivers were arrested compared with 2,407 DWI arrests during the same period in 2016.

Officer on leave for allegedly punching convicted criminal 

A Detroit Lakes officer is on paid administrative leave after allegedly punching a man he's arrested a couple times in the past. Blake Sundvor , of Frazee, Minn., alleges he was punched by Detroit Lakes Police Sergeant Robert Strand at the Hub 41 restaurant in Detroit Lakes on Dec. 23 when he was off duty.

Four vehicle crash in Otter Tail County Saturday, January 6 

The Minnesota State Patrol says around 5:30 p.m., a pickup was southbound on County Road 60 and was attempting to cross Highway 10 when it was hit by a compact SUV. The pickup then spun and hit a SUV that had been northbound on County Road 60. An eastbound car then struck the compact SUV that had come to rest in the eastbound lane of Highway 10. The car's 26-year-old driver and 3-year-old passenger, both of Detroit Lakes, were taken to the hospital in Perham with non-life threatening injuries.

Power outage near Detroit Lakes leaves skiers stuck on lift, thousands without power 

At Detroit Mountain, lights were restored and enough power from a generator to get skiers down from the ski lifts after being stuck up there for a short period of time during a power outage Thursday night. This photo is taken by a student who waited up in a lift chair with his brother for their trip back down.

After Suburban plunges through ice on Little Detroit Lake, sheriff issues warning 

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.-Three people narrowly escaped a Suburban after it plunged through the ice on Little Detroit Lake around 6:40 p.m. Christmas Eve, and the county sheriff is urging residents to be careful as ice conditions can change quickly and nighttime on the lakes is even more of a danger.. Katie Erb, 28, and Cody Grendall, 31, along with a child whose name is not being released, were traveling in the vehicle on a previously travelled path when the vehicle broke the ice and sank into water that was 11 feet deep.
