A seat on the Aitkin City Council is no longer vacant, the Aitkin Independent Age reported. The council decided between two applicants to fill the empty seat, left when Molly James resigned from the council.

Prince of Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Baxter will be dedicating a Little Free Library at 10:15 a.m. Sunday. This library is located by the bike trail on Jasper Wood Drive.

Milford Mine tragedy memorialized as county park 

Frank Perpich talks to Gloria Perpich Wednesday, who is assisted by Sue Coffin on the boardwalk bridge Wednesday at the Milford Mine Memorial Park grand opening. Gloria Perpich's father left the mine an hour before it collapsed, killing 41 miners on Feb. 5, 1924.

Lueck urges governor to move forward with replacement pipeline 

Rep. Dale Lueck, R-Aitkin, joined more than three dozen fellow legislators in urging Gov. Mark Dayton to instruct the Minnesota Department of Commerce and the Public Utilities Commission to move forward with the proposed Enbridge Line 3 Replacement project. The aging pipeline was ordered replaced by the federal government during the Obama administration and has been subject to unprecedented public review and comment.

Cuyuna Lakes Crusher another success 

A total of 451 racers participated in the third annual Cuyuna Lakes Crusher on August 20 on the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area trails. The event was sponsored by the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series Race.
