Emily man faces domestic assault charges 

A 23-year-old Emily man faces charges following a domestic assault in which he allegedly grabbed a woman by the throat to the point where she was unable to breathe. Kyle Joseph Frank was charged Monday in Crow Wing County District Court in Brainerd with felony domestic assault by strangulation, two gross misdemeanor stalking charges and misdemeanor domestic assault.

Area firefighters receive controlled burn training 

Several area fire departments received live burn training over the past few weeks. This real life experience is invaluable for all firefighters no matter their level of experience.

Crosslake: Council tables discussion on rock dam repair project, talks city hall safety 

The Crosslake City Council tabled discussion regarding the use of Big Pine Trail to haul materials for the Pine River Rock Dam repair project after hearing from the Crow Wing County Soil and Water Conservation District and the city's public works department Monday, April 9. Beth Hippert, of the SWCD, asked the council to agree not to hold contractors liable for any road damage that could occur during the project under two conditions: Contractors will not exceed legal road limits and will provide weight tickets. The repair project includes a series of five rock weirs that will replace the failing rock dam structure.

Fifty Lakes: Controlled burn offers training for firefighters, makes way for new campground owners 

Firefighters from Fifty Lakes, Crosslake and Emily, along with trainees, battled flames during a controlled burn Wednesday, April 3, at Up a Creek Campground in Fifty Lakes.

New Crosslake school to open for start of 2018-19 school year 

Lake Foundation board member Mike Stone told the Crosslake City Council on Monday, April 9, the project's contractors are well ahead of schedule and plan to have the building done in August so students can begin the year there. "Almost four months ahead of schedule, and we're on or maybe slightly under budget for the whole project," Stone said.

The Outing Volunteer Library recently received over 500 brand new books from author Bruce Lansky. Lansky has written over 200 books, and is the owner of Meadowbrook Press, a well-known publisher in Minnesota.

Crosslakers Report: Greater Crosslake Area Foundation forming 

What began as a vision to enable donors to fund Crosslaker projects with tax-deductible contributions has developed into the incorporation of a foundation with a much broader mission. Articles of incorporation and bylaws are being drawn up for the Greater Crosslake Area Foundation.

Breezy Point: Mayor pledges to remedy city's tax-forfeited lot problem 

Breezy Point Mayor Tom Lillehei said there are around 1,200 tax-forfeited lots in Crow Wing County, and Breezy Point has 462 of those. In comparison with area communities, Ideal Township and Nisswa each has two tax-forfeited properties, Pelican Township has three, Pequot Lakes has one, and Crosslake does not have any.

Crosslake Archer Finishes First in the Centershot MN State Tournamen 

On Saturday, March 17th Emily Mitchell, a senior, team Captain and an archer on the Crosslake Community School Archery team shot a season and personal best 271 and placed 1st in the Special Needs Division as an individual high school female shooter in the Centershot MN State Tournament held at North Heights Lutheran Church in Arden Hills, Minnesota. Over 140 Archers from 27 schools in Minnesota participated in this annual archery tournament.
