Minnesota's two largest export markets push for NAFTA renewal 

Minnesota's two largest export markets are touting the benefits of the North American Free Trade Agreement, which may be headed for a renewal in Washington as early as next month. Canadian Consul General Paul Connors and Mexican Consul Gerardo Guerrero, who spoke Tuesday at a Minnesota Chamber of Commerce breakfast, have been on the road pitching the value of NAFTA to Minnesota factories, farmers and workers.

Feds rejected Rodriguez plea deal to avoid death penalty 

Documents show a man sentenced to death for killing a University of North Dakota student more than a decade ago offered to plead guilty to avoid the death penalty. Rodriguez's attorney, Richard Ney, wrote to then-U.S. Attorney Drew Wrigley that the plea would spare pain for Rodriguez's family and that of his victim, Dru Sjodin of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota.

Northwest Minnesota man gets prison time for holding woman hostage, assaulting her for three days 

CROOKSTON, Minn.-A northwest Minnesota man was ordered to spend more than six years in prison after being accused of holding a woman hostage, as well as physically and sexually assaulting her, for three days. Polk County Judge Kurt Marben handed down on Thursday, March 29, a 90-month prison sentence to Jared Phillip Renner, 30, of Lengby after the defendant was convicted of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, two counts of domestic assault by strangulation, threats of violence and pattern of stalking conduct, all of which are felonies.
