The West End business district in Cloquet used to be the main hub of the city. After the fire of 1918 wiped everything out, the city rebuilt its city hall and business district there.

New loan program unveiled in Cloquet 

Cloquet developers have unveiled a program designed to help spur business development in the city's Historic West End Business District and fill vacant buildings and storefronts. The goal is to restore vibrancy to Cloquet's West End Business District and highlight its historic riverfront roots.

3-vehicle crash kills McGregor man 

An 81-year-old man was killed in a three-vehicle crash at 5:26 p.m. Saturday, June 16, on Highway 169, just south of Garrison. The Minnesota State Patrol reported a Dodge Ram truck pulling a utility trailer rear-ended a Chevrolet Silverado, pushing it into a Dodge Caravan.

Cloquet Police Youth Camp Teaches Kids About Being an Officer 

All this week a group of kids in Cloquet are learning firsthand what it's like to be a police officer at a police youth camp. This is the first year for the camp, and it's for kids aged 9 to 12. The camp is hosted by the Cloquet and Fond du Lac Police Departments, but there will be other departments there throughout the week as well.

Twin Ports face numerous chemical risks 

For decades, the majority of the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior, Wis., lived under the threat of a concentrated chlorine spill, which could have spread over 10 miles and sickened up to 128,000 people in an unlikely, though technically possible, worst-case scenario. "While chlorine is undoubtedly an effective method of disinfection, wastewater treatment plants nationwide are shifting away from its use due to the dangers chlorine can pose when stored on site or during transportation," former WLSSD Executive Director Kurt Soderberg said in a statement at the time.

Gypsy Moth Treatments to Begin Monday 

Spraying for gypsy moths will be happening in Cloquet, Duluth's Lakeside neighborhood, Two Harbors and the White Iron Lake area near Ely. "We do have these scattered areas of high population showing that we've got some specific problems areas," Gypsy Moth Lead Worker Cree Bradley said.

Counterfeit 'Motion Picture' Money in Cloquet 

The Cloquet Police Department is warning business owners and residents to carefully check their paper money to make sure that the bills are real. According to a release from the Police Department, officers have been responding to numerous calls of counterfeit bills circulating throughout the Cloquet area over the past several months.

Ag Department to treat gypsy moth infestation in Northern Minnesota 

Officials will conduct the treatments starting sometime between To eradicate the moths before they spread, officials will conduct two aerial applications of Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki over each of the areas, spaced 7-10 days apart.
