Center City early levy set for 2019, Grand Avenue project bid awarded 

The levy for 2019 in Center City was set by unanimous vote of council last week, to increase by 4.3 percent. This is a maximum and council is allowed to revise the total downward, but is not allowed to increase it before the final levy is adopted in December.

Chisago City ok's pro-active approach to future development of Lakeside and Fairview sites 

First, at the urging of City Administrator John Pechman, the council authorized city engineering firm Bolton and Menk to prepare a master plan for the Lakeside Intermediate School property and for the building that once housed the Chisago Lakes Hospital, that is for sale. Engineers described developing a master plan as "an opportunity to create a refined plan to draw potential developers to the site.

History Center Vietnam exhibit a personal display 

The airplane models are fun to look at and are part of an extensive hobby of collecting. If anything will conjure memories of Vietnam, it has got to be the distinctive green uniform and those boots--both are in a display at the History Center.

City, school board filings close for November 

In upcoming city elections there may be some appointing actions necessary after election day if multiple mayoral candidates, who are currently holding city council seats, should win.... There is a race for mayor in North Branch come this fall. According to the clerk, sitting councilmembers Jim Swenson and Robert Canada have filed for mayor.

Highway 8 to be restricted August 27 to 31 

The state is planning to start the local Highway 8 drainage projects as of Monday, August 27. The eastbound lane of Highway 8 between Goodview Circle and I-35, will be only one lane. This drainage and culvert work is planned to last until Friday, August 31. Commuters might wish to find alternative routes if at all possible to avoid the six mile stretch of #8 north of 275th in Chisago City, next week.
